African island as a plantation doctor, where he has to cure a group of servants
‘infected’ by "Banzo", the nostalgia of the enslaved. Many of them succumb to
starvation or commit suicide. For fear of contagion, the group is sent to a rainy
hill, surrounded by forest. Afonso tries to heal the servants, but their inability to
understand their souls' issues is too strong.

João Garção Borges wrote: "A magnificent piece of filmmaking in which Margarida
Cardoso once again demonstrates her undeniable qualities and skills as a director
and screenwriter. A film free of platitudes, with economical and very effective
planning, which questions us and pushes us to discover the other side of the soul,
and not just the African soul. Beautiful cinematography, which avoids the usual
folklore of depicting the exotic. Excellent historical reconstruction: set design,
props, wardrobe, characterisation, and hairstyles. Perfectly articulated soundtrack
and musical score, which consolidates the overall pulse of this feature film in which
the filtered atmospheres of a space enclosed within nature and surrounded by the
sea are combined in an exemplary way with the equally breezy journey and becoming
of the different characters."
