Some of these films were seen by the METROPOLIS team at the Cannes Film Festival last May and more recently at the Venice and San Sebastian international festivals. In this issue, we pay particular attention to the most captivating premieres from these two festivals, which took place in September.
The feature in issue 99 marks the return of Martin Scorsese with “The Killers of the Flower Moon”, a fictional film focusing on the genocide of the Osage Indian nation, produced by a domestic platform and which, after its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, has been widely distributed in cinemas. This autumn, cinemagoers can also discover the latest films by Nanni Moretti, Woddy Allen, and Pedro Almodóvar.
Portuguese productions are trying to find their place through two totally different proposals that are presented through interviews with their directors: “A Sibila” marks Eduardo Brito’s feature film debut, adapting the work of Agustina Bessa Luís, and “Pátria” is a film that reinforces Bruno Gascon’s ability to explore contemporary narratives that arouse the interest of a more diverse audience.
After a summer that was characterized by the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon, it’s time to consider a more varied lineup that draws our attention to various films.
